Governments move to coworking hubs
What: Government, military and intergovernmental agencies in different countries across the globe are partnering with WeWork to design collaborative office spaces, where their departments are not siloed, thereby encouraging innovation and collaboration. Coworking spaces can provide private floors to the companies, and safe stable broadband connections, on more flexible lease terms than traditionally rented office spaces.
So what: Using innovatively designed flexible hubs can also attract and retain young employees: government salaries may not match their expectations, but the workplaces do. The idea of de-siloing is also becoming common with government initiatives in Helsingborg, France, Finland and New Zealand encouraging collaboration among citizens and government, or different municipality departments. These are centred on ‘innovation hubs’ – coworking spaces where people can meet and discuss or debate new ideas.
