LEARNING AT WORK BECOMES MORE IMPORTANT

WHAT: Thanks to the pandemic, there has been a huge increase in the number of increased use of LinkedIn for content distribution, networking and skills development. LinkedIn reported that the number of LinkedIn Live streams increased by 437% compared to the year before, that the number of conversations between connections increased by 55% compared to the year before and that 1 million hours of LinkedIn Learning content were watched every week. Concepts such as Upskill and Reskill have become central to corporate development. Another development is that collaborations between business and universities have been higher on the agenda than before, in order to expand the opportunities for lifelong learning.

SO WHAT: This can have implications for the definition of both working hours and the workplace and what role or decision-making mandate the employer has in which educations they want employees to participate in, and how this can affect which premises are needed for different purposes. Furthermore, in the long run, this will affect career choices over a lifetime, which is in line with the trend that has emerged in the past year, that we tend to have several different occupations through life rather than a single one.
